Picture perfect

Most people desire a picture perfect life, a life that has all the ingredients of happiness, health, wealth and success. Mostly, this picture is linked with material gains, the bigger the possession, the better the picture. And then that’s what it is, picture perfect, worthy of being shared on social media.

However, is that what it is? Is life supposed to be picture perfect? Are we not imperfect in our own ways and should we not celebrate our imperfectness?

The moment we desire perfectness, six sigma-level performances, we are somehow setting ourselves for failure. Human beings are not machines and we are not in an assembly unit, which requires certain specifications for producing a quality product. We are in a fragile shell (body) with an equally fragile interior (emotions). We cannot aim for perfection.

But, can we aim for balance, instead? Try to be still within.

I try, and often fail. At times, I am still, in harmony with my inner being, and then, some irritant and the multiverse of madness opens up! However, in those brief moments of peace, everything comes in alignment, there is so much of stillness within that I couldn’t even feel my own self. My existence is tied to my breath. I could count them to know that I am alive. At that moment, I could be anyone or anything, taking a quantum leap. This state is not permanent. Human bodies cannot sustain it. As the human needs surfaces, so does the need for a perfect three-dimensional reality.

Why run for being perfect? After all, we are so much more than what we think we are.

  2. It's not necessary to be perfect. We are all just works in progress. You have really explained why striving for growth is better than attempting to be perfect.

  3. It suits business to have people aim for perfection so more products are bought. Perfection would be boring, as well as unrealistic, as it’s our imperfection that makes us real and interesting.

  4. Yes, let's aim for balance. Perfection, especially when desired in everything, does make life stressful at times.
